Olivier Debouzy Award

When (legal) irrelevance and (scientific) relevance rhyme with recompense: launch of the 2nd edition of the Olivier Debouzy award.

The Club des Juristes (Lawyers’ Circle) and law firm August & Debouzy are pleased to announce the launch of the second edition of the Olivier Debouzy Award. Following the success of the first edition, this year the legal ideas agitator will once again be rewarded on June 26, 2012.

The Olivier Debouzy award is beyond titles and specialism as it promotes first and foremost freedom of thought.

Last year, out of the 43 applications accepted, 19 were shortlisted and were the object of an in-depth study by the members of the jury. The jury retained in particular the following selection criteria: innovative ideas and solid scientific and legal selling points.
The happy award winner was Emmanuel Jeuland, Professor at the Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne law university.

This legal ideas agitator was rewarded for his book « La Fable du ricochet, Approche juridique  des liens de la parole. » The author’s intention was to shed light on the importance of the legal link regarding the training and conservation of society, in particular in light of speech, social or even political links.

Applications are now open for the new edition and a prestigious jury (page 2) will analyze all written or audiovisual legal publications, whatever the aid used (website, video, blog…), carried out over the last sixteen months (January 1st, 2011-April 30, 2012) and in French.
This award being that of the lawyers’ community, each lawyer is authorized to put forward the candidate(s) of his choice, whether another’s candidate(s) or his own.
Candidate applications will remain open until May 23, 2012.

An innovative award for impertinent and audacious lawyers:
Because « law feeds on imagination and inventiveness », it « needs free and innovative spirits, that will prevent it from becoming static and sclerotic ».
The Olivier Debouzy award honors freedom of thought. It rewards those who are daring, “those who intend and know how to contradict popular belief, who prove to be audacious and inventive”.

Renowned lawyer, recognized for his expertise and ideas, ENA graduate and a good strategist, Olivier Debouzy, who passed away on April 18, 2010, undeniably made an impact during his time thanks to his remarkable boldness and outspokenness, often becoming provocative and an ideas agitator.
