The Vice-President of the Commission and Commissioner for Competition, Ms. Margrethe Vestager, has proposed a new framework for State aid to respond to the challenges posed by the United States´ adoption of a $369 billion climate and energy package of subsidies to support its industry. The new framework could also offer “anti-relocation aid” in a bid to prevent firms from leaving the bloc to seek more favorable conditions abroad. Specific provisions to support new investments in production facilities, including tax breaks, are also being envisaged. Ms. Vestager has asked member countries for their feedback on her proposed changes by January 25th.
