2018 Best Lawyers ranking: Emmanuelle Barbara recognized for second time as “Lawyer of the Year” in employment law

Emmanuelle Barbara, senior partner at August Debouzy, who heads the employment law department she created in 1996, received for the second time the “Lawyer of the Year” prize of the Best Lawyers ranking.This nomination by her peers once again recognizes her background as a lawyer in the avant-garde of the practicing of employment law.
As a lawyer specialized in employment law, Emmanuelle Barbara is convinced that her profession, which is in close proximity to companies, offers an unequalled avant-garde position to enhance thought and work on the transformation of the employment model in action.She is dedicated to work in think tanks such as the Institut Montaigne (member of the Board of Directors), Le Club des Juristes and Institut Messine, for which she presided over a working group that published a report on the future of the employment agreement at the end of 2017.In addition, she was involved in the promotion of independent work as a normal and alternative form of work.Next July 6 in Avignon at the colloquium “Managers in the Avignon Region, she will give a speech on the subject “Employment Audacity:Reason or Prayer”.
“One must concentrate on aligning companies’ needs for agility, faced with the challenges of globalization, digitalization and increased competition, with effectual assistance provided to the movement of people confronted with managing their professional paths.This new situation profoundly modifies past attitudes”, states Emmanuelle Barbara, asked about the priorities of French companies in 2018.
In addition to her job as a lawyer, Emmanuelle Barbara attaches great importance to professional training, which is at the heart of the academic approach to training lawyers.In this respect, she has long taught at Université Paris I –Panthéon Sorbonne and also teaches a course in the Master II Economy, Markets and Regulation at the School of Law at Sciences-Po Paris.
A lawyer since 1993, Emmanuelle Barbara joined August Debouzy in 1996, creating the employment law department.The team has distinguished itself on numerous occasions through the its outstanding practice, which has been recognized as among the best in international and French rankings.Today the employment law department has more than 30 lawyers, including 8 partners.Emmanuelle Barbara was also managing partner of August Debouzy between 2001 and 2017.
