As part of the implementation of the regulation on digital services (the “DSA”), the European Commission published, on April 25th, a much-awaited first list of 19 very large online platforms (VLOPs) and very large online search engines (VLOSEs) having at least 45 million monthly active users. The European Commission designated 17 VLOPs: AliExpress, Amazon Store, Apple AppStore, Booking.com, Facebook, Google Play, Google Maps, Google Shopping, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube and Zalando. For their part, Google Search and Bing were designated as VLOSEs. These designations were made based on user data submitted by the providers of these digital services.
