François Pochart, partner at August Debouzy (AD), has successfully represented global healthcare leader Abbott Diabetes Care, alongside Taylor Wessing, in several major proceedings before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), including actions before the Paris Central and Local Divisions, both Paris and The Hague. AD team, led by François Pochart, worked in close collaboration with Christian Dekoninck and the international Taylor Wessing team.

Strong technical and legal expertise at the heart of the UPC

AD’s patent team brings together patent attorneys and lawyers — many of whom are also engineers or scientists — offering a unique blend of technical insight and legal expertise. This multidisciplinary approach enables the team to grasp the technical complexities of the patents at issue while navigating European and French patent law with precision.

This dual expertise and the partners’ years of experience in addressing technical “judges” in the EPO (opposition divisions and Board of appeals) and legal judges in national courts enable the firm to develop efficient procedural and pleading strategies, present effective arguments to the UPC's legally and technically qualified judges and manage cross-border patent litigations within the UPC framework, either independently or in close collaboration with international law firms.

Representation before multiple UPC Divisions

François Pochart and his AD team have successfully acted as Abbott’s representatives in several cases including:

  • Paris Local Division – Dexcom v. Abbott, as Defendant in infringement action and counterclaim for revocation (UPC_CFI_230/2023, 4 July 2024);
  • Paris Local Division – Dexcom v. Abbott as Defendant in infringement action and counterclaim for revocation (UPC_CFI_395/2023, 11 December 2024);
  • Paris Central Division – Dexcom v. Abbott, as Applicant in an infringement action and a counterclaim for revocation (UPC_CFI_425/2023, settled before the decision);
  • Paris Central Division – Sibio v. Abbott as Defendant (patentee) in revocation action (UPC_CFI_231/2024, 21 July 2025)
  • The Hague Local Division – Abbott v. Sinocare and Menarini as Applicant in preliminary measures proceedings based on two Abbott’s patents (UPC_CFI_624/2025, 17 October 2025 and UPC_CFI_587/2025, 22 October 2025).
