August Debouzy has advised TotalEnergies on its capital partnership with La Compagnie des Bois du Gabon aimed at developing a new forest management model

Communiqué M&A | 16/06/22 | 1 min. | Julien Wagmann Renaud Christol Leïla Hubeaut Maxime Legourd Coralie Foucault Marc-Antoine Picquier Laure Khemiri

August Debouzy has advised TotalEnergies on its acquisition from Criterion Africa Partners of a 49% stake in Compagnie des Bois du Gabon (CBG), a key player in the Gabonese forestry sector, recognized for its responsible and sustainable management of 600,000 hectares of forest, certified to the highest international standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as well as for its ongoing contribution to protecting biodiversity.

The forest management model that will be implemented by the two partners will make it possible to develop a new balance between, on the one hand, the production of locally processed sustainable wood combined with carbon sequestration and, on the other hand, the production of associated carbon credits, through the reduced impact of forestry activities and operations, reforestation, agroforestry and the conservation of natural forests. This new model is in line with the Gabonese authorities' “Green Gabon” approach - the country's development strategy to sustainably manage its natural resources for the benefit of the population - and the country's climate policy.

August Debouzy has advised TotalEnergies with a team composed of Julien Wagmann (partner), Laure Khemiri (counsel), Maxime Legourd (senior associate) and Coralie Foucault (associate) on the transactional (corporate) aspects, Renaud Christol (partner) and Marc-Antoine Picquier (associate) on the competition law aspects and Leïla Hubeaut (partner) on the carbon credit aspects.
