he General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (“GDPR”) was adopted just over a year ago, on 27 April 2016. This new regulatory framework substantially amends the applicable rules regarding data protection and privacy. As from 25 May 2018, it will apply to players (companies or public bodies) already subject to the French Data Protection Act, but also to new actors who previously were not directly concerned (e.g.: companies not established in the European Union but processing personal data from European data subjects in the context of the offering of goods or services).

In this context, it is now essential for those companies and organizations that are concerned to initiate a GDPR compliance process. Indeed, in order to anticipate its application and reach an adequate level of compliance by 25 May 2018, it is crucial to begin right now an in-depth reflection on the approach to be adopted, the measures to be implemented, the structure to be set up as well as to establish an appropriate action plan.
